Georgia O'Keefe Flowers

These beautiful flowers were painted by my after school art students.  They were inspired by the large flowers of Georgia O'Keefe.  They were able to look for the images of the flower they wanted and then reproduce it, with their own twist, in acrylics.  

Learning about Organic Shape in Kindergarten

These cute little alligator paintings were done with Kindergarten students. We talked about geometric and organic shapes, and then practiced by painting gators. They had such fun with this. Afterwards, we embellished with oil pastels and gave some detail to our works of art.

Pretty Patterned Pussy Cats

What a fun and whimsical way to teach pattern to these 2nd grade students. Even though, most of them are familiar with REGULAR pattern,IRREGULAR pattern became the challenge. Can you pick up where a student used IRREGULAR PATTERN? Their imagination flared and their creative juices flowed while still using this PRINCIPLE OF DESIGN. They also use SIMPLE SHAPES to create more COMPLEX SHAPES as they form these cute kitties with paint. It was a prrrrrrrrrfect project!!!!! (funny.....right????)

Our After School art students are producing some beautiful work. Below you can see some of the landscapes that they painted on textured paper. They first glued on various textures onto their paper and then painted on top, adding interest and variety to the final piece.

3rd Grade Georgia O'Keefe Flowers

These students experienced flowers O'Keefe style! They were give a choice from many flower photographs as to which one they wanted to reproduce in a larger than life format. After doing some practice drawings, paying attention to shape and detail, they were ready to put it on their final sheet. Then we used layers of drybrush painting to fill in the composition followed by oil pastel embellishments. The results were fabulous! Enjoy!

Monochromatic Color Schemes

Above, these 4th grade students have been experimenting wth VALUE and MONOCHROMATIC COLOR SCHEMES. They have used TINTS and SHADES of one color to create their compositions. This is not an easy task, but these students accomplished the goal with flying colors.
