My K students are learning about mixing primary colors to make secondary colors! We are using science as we discover the effects of mixing these primary colors to see what our new color will be. They are then applying these secondary colors to their projects by mixing them themselves.
CCE Art Happenings will let you know what is happening, not only in the Art Lab at Chets Creek Elementary, but also in the Jacksonville Community as well. Interesting websites are listed and fun ideas for art projects at home.

Kindergarten students are learning about PRIMARY Color
These cute little birds were a great way to teach a lot of little lessons to my kindergarten students. We practiced tracing circles, estimating space, how to paint correctly, experimented with different media, reviewed line and pattern, and, of course, we learned about The First Colors! Other kindergarten classes are doing the same thing but their circles are turning into fish, and teddy bears.

"Fall Trees" in all their glory!
As seen in an earlier post, our Kindergarten students are learning and reviewing about COLOR. Specifically, how to mix primary colors to create secondary colors. Here are some examples of "Fall Trees" that they painted, demonstrating their mixing abilities. I can hear the crackle of those leaves!

Color study with Kindergarten
Kindergarten students are starting to learn about mixing colors. We started mixing blue and red to make purple tree trunks. In some cases, we are also getting purple hands. But then that is what all those baby wipes are for! We will continue this color mixing lesson by mixing primary colors to make secondary colors. Be on the lookout for some pictures of the final masterpieces.

Gusty Trees
This is another Color Study lesson done with Kindergarten students, where they mix primary colors to get secondary colors. In this lesson they are creating trees, growing in grass with fall leaves. Can't you just feel the wind blowing through the branches as the leaves swirl to the ground?

Kindergarten Owls
I had my kindergarten class last week paint owls. We practiced several weeks ago on practice paper and then we painted them on the blue paper last week.
I am really pleased with how the owls turned out. We talked about the different types of shapes we use to make the body, ovals, circles, triangles, and skinny ovals. We also talked about patterns in order to do the feathers of the owls. Finally, we discussed overlapping, the branch was to be in front of the tail and the claws were to be on top of the branch.
We also painted leaves onto the branches and used oil pastel to outline and add fine details.
